About the Role

The XR Technical Developer & AI Intern drives the technical implementation of interactive spatial experiences and AI integration at Vortex XR Lab. This role focuses primarily on software engineering in real-time engines, coupled with hands-on lab operations and equipment management, and supported by foundational 3D asset optimization and design implementation.

 

KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Develop interactive XR logic, mechanics, and spatial interactions using Unity (C#) or Unreal Engine (C++/Blueprints).
  • Research and prototype AI features and API integrations within XR applications.
  • Manage version control (Git) and deploy application builds to target XR headsets and devices.
  • Assist in the daily operations, scheduling, and maintenance of Vortex XR Lab facilities.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot XR hardware, LED screens, 360-video equipment, and tracking systems.
  • Provide technical support and hardware guidance to lab users and collaborators.
  • Optimize and import 3D models (Blender, Revit), textures, and UI elements into real-time engines.
  • Assist with initial visual prototyping and creative brainstorming for XR projects.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

MINIMUM ACADEMIC / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

Currently pursuing or recently completed a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Game Development, Interactive Media, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technology field.

 

RELATED EXPERIENCE

Strong understanding of real-time 3D development workflows and interactive logic. Core proficiency in game engine development software, specifically Unity Engine (C#) and/or Unreal Engine (C++/Blueprints), is required. Experience with supporting development tools such as Visual Studio, Git/GitHub, and spatial SDKs (e.g., OpenXR, Meta XR) is essential. Practical understanding of AI/ML concepts, such as LLMs, Computer Vision (e.g., OpenCV), or API integrations, and scripting in Python is highly desirable. Basic understanding of 3D modeling pipelines, including optimization and asset importing from Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max. Hands-on experience or strong interest in managing XR lab hardware, LED screens, 360-video equipment, and troubleshooting VR/AR devices is advantageous. 

 

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)

 

  • Direct experience or willingness to develop advanced skills in Unity Game Engine (C#) and Unreal Engine (C++/Blueprints).
  • Eagerness to learn and apply AI concepts, ML frameworks, and tools (such as LLMs, Computer Vision, and API integration) that intersect with real-time spatial development.
  • Interest in VR, AR, and MR platforms, headsets, and sensors, including Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro, XR glasses (e.g., XREAL), and peripheral tracking systems.
  • Hands-on eagerness to gain operational knowledge of XR LED screens, 360-video equipment, tracking systems, and lab facility management.
  • Familiarity with 3D and media software for asset integration and documentation, such as Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, and basic video editing tools (DaVinci Resolve / Adobe Suite).
  • Strong research skills to discover, test, and utilize emerging software tools, AI methodologies, and resources relevant to XR development.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts through code documentation, visual diagrams, and clear presentations.
