About the Role

The Project Designer (Internship position) in the Engineering Division is designed for a college student completing a Bachelor of Science degree program in Civil or Environmental Engineering. This is a hands-on position and an opportunity to learn a variety of engineering tasks including production drawings, reports, calculations, modeling, and design support. This is a seasonal position that will work full-time/40 hours per week from mid-May through mid-August 2027.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn to use AutoCAD/Civil 3D, ArcGIS Pro, and water, wastewater, and stormwater computer modeling software.
  • Assist with production drawings, plan sets, site analysis, engineer’s opinions of probable costs, utility computations, and civil design.
  • Assist with supporting reports and calculations, including hydrology and sewer reports.
  • Learn about applicable engineering standards, codes, and the permitting process.
  • Participate in project status meetings and client/stakeholder meetings as appropriate.
  • Participate in field visits and construction site visits.
  • Coordinate with outside utility companies and municipalities to gather information necessary for design.
  • Gain exposure to different civil engineering disciplines and collaborate with professionals across Engineering, Structural, Survey, and Construction.

Requirements

  • Student enrolled in a Bachelor and/or Master degree program in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Ability to work hours necessary to complete work within required time frames with regard to deadlines.
  • Computer-proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook). Familiarity with CAD and GIS is preferred, but not required.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record with 3 or less demerit points.
