At Thermo Fisher Scientific, our IT & Digital Internship is designed to be a strategic pipeline for future digital and technology leadership talent. IT & Digital interns who demonstrate exceptional performance, leadership potential, learning agility, and alignment with our values will be considered for the full-time Digital Leadership Development Program (DLDP) during their Summer with us to begin post-graduation. 

As a global company with opportunities spanning multiple businesses, functions, and locations, applicants are required to be geographically flexible and mobile for both their IT & Digital Internship assignment and the DLDP. Potential placement into an internship, LDP, or full-time role is based on business needs and organizational priorities at the time of selection. Onsite and in-office work is an essential function of this role and a requirement of the position. 

Strategic Business Impact 

 The IT & Digital Internship is a 10-week experience and students have the option to join us on either May 24, 2027 or June 14, 2027. Interns will be assigned meaningful projects with strategic and/or operational importance to the business, providing the opportunity to solve real challenges, collaborate across teams, and deliver measurable impact. 

Summer projects may include opportunities across areas such as: 

  • Data, Analytics & Artificial Intelligence 

  • Digital Product Management 

  • Business Systems & Enterprise Applications 

  • Digital Transformation & Automation 

  • Technology Strategy & Business Partnership 

  • Software, Platforms & Digital Solutions 

  • Cybersecurity & Technology Risk 

  • Technology Operations & Infrastructure 

Specific assignments will vary based on business priorities, organizational needs, and intern capabilities.  

What We Look For 

Academic Background & Work Experience 

  •  Undergraduate student completing a Bachelor's degree between December 2027–June 2028 in an area such as: Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Science, Analytics, Engineering, Business Technology, Management Information Systems, or another related field. 

  • 0 years of work experience required; previous related internship, project, research, or technology experience preferred. 

  • Demonstrated interest in using technology, data, digital solutions, and innovation to solve business problems and create meaningful impact.  

Leadership Profile 

  • Proven leadership experience through student organizations, athletics, Greek life, community service, volunteer organizations, campus programs, military service, academic projects, or other leadership roles. 

  • A track record of influencing others, leading initiatives, driving results, and creating positive impact within teams and organizations. 

  • Demonstrated ability to connect technical or digital solutions to business needs and user outcomes. 

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, adapt to changing priorities, and solve complex problems. 

  • Evidence of grit, resilience, and perseverance when facing challenges, setbacks, or competing priorities. 

  • Strong learning agility, intellectual curiosity, and an innovative mindset, including an interest in emerging technologies and new ways of working. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to use data and insights to inform decisions. 

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and emotional intelligence, with the ability to communicate effectively and build relationships across technical and non-technical teams. 

  • A collaborative, customer-focused mindset and demonstrated ability to work effectively across diverse teams and perspectives. 

  • Geographic mobility and flexibility required to pursue internship and future career opportunities in locations aligned with business needs. 

  • Onsite and in-office work is an essential function of this role and is required throughout the program and in future placements to support collaboration across businesses, functions, and locations. 

Internship Locations 

The 2027 IT & Digital Internship is expected to offer opportunities across multiple Thermo Fisher Scientific locations in the United States, including: 

  • Pittsburgh, PA 

  • Frederick, MD 

  • Morrisville, NC 

  • Carlsbad, CA 

Specific internship locations and assignments will be determined based on business needs, organizational priorities, and available opportunities at the time of placement. Applicants should be open to relocation and placement across identified program locations. Location preferences may be considered but are not guaranteed. 

Compensation & Relocation 

  • Our Undergraduate internships offer an hourly rate between $18.50–$28.75, dependent upon the role type and location you are supporting and aligned to respective cost-of-living guidelines. 

  • If eligible, a relocation stipend is offered in the amount of $5,000. Students must be located 50+ miles away from the physical location of the internship to be eligible for the relocation stipend. 

  • Please note that interns are required to have a reliable mode of transportation to and from their assigned work location for the duration of their internship.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Pennsylvania is $24.00–$26.50.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
