Role Summary

If you're looking to gain hands-on experience in construction operations while working on large-scale projects across the country, this internship is for you. As a Traveling Construction Coordinator Intern, you will support active job sites by coordinating materials, managing inventory, maintaining organized workspaces, and assisting with construction-related activities. Throughout the summer, you'll collaborate with sales, purchasing, operations, and customers to keep projects moving efficiently while learning agile construction practices and jobsite management.

This internship provides valuable exposure to construction operations, material flow management, safety practices, and continuous improvement initiatives. Interns gain real-world experience working on active job sites while developing technical, professional, and leadership skills that prepare them for a potential future role on Van Meter's Traveling Team after graduation.

Key Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinate materials and tools by ordering, receiving, staging, and distributing items to support project execution.

• Maintain organized jobsites through inventory management, stocking work areas, and setting up fabrication stations.

• Support construction operations through wire cutting, labeling, assembly of lighting products, and other project-related tasks.

• Collaborate with Inside Sales, Purchasing, Operations, and customers to ensure project success and customer satisfaction.

• Apply safety best practices while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and cost-control efforts.

• Assist with inventory accuracy efforts including cycle counting and material tracking processes.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and productive work environment on active construction sites.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

·  High school diploma or GED

·  Currently a college sophomore or junior standing 

·  Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

·  Strong written and verbal communication skills

·  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

·  Ability to organize work, manage priorities, and accept feedback

·  Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·  Ability to travel throughout the summer and work extended shifts as project needs require.


Physical Requirements 

·  Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods of time.

·  Ability to lift, move, and handle materials up to 70 pounds.

·  Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.

·  Ability to operate material handling and warehouse equipment safely.

·  Frequent interaction and collaboration with customers, jobsite personnel, and internal team members.

·  Primarily field-based position located on active construction jobsites.

Working Conditions

·  Primarily works on a jobsite

·  Exposure to moderate noise levels typical of professional work environments

·  May visit warehouse, manufacturing, or customer locations as part of training and development activities

·  Ability to hear and respond to conversations, phone calls, alarms, and other workplace communications

·  Ability to travel between company locations and customer sites as needed

·  Location: Outdoor environment, working in the conditions 

·  Environmental Exposure: Exposure to wet/humid conditions, extreme heat/cold

·  Safety/Gear: Required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, or hard hats
