The Structural Design Engineer team is responsible for developing configurations, laying out initial designs, designing detail parts, assemblies and installations and supporting aircraft programs from initial phase through product type certification. The design engineer also sustains multiple inproduction aircraft, investigates fleet issues and customer requests, and works alongside multiple technical peers, including stress analysts, systems design engineers, test engineers, manufacturing engineers, production floor support personnel and regulatory agents. Knowledge of design configuration, design criteria, including CFR Part 25 regulations, material properties, load paths and industry and Gulfstream processes are examples of the knowledge, tools and techniques needed to design modern aircraft structures and components.

Hobbies / Interests:
• A passion for airplanes: full-scale, hobby/kit and RC
• An interest in structures and a desire to understand how aircraft are designed and built to 
optimize performance (weight, aerodynamics) and reduce cost
• An interest in solid modelling, 3D CAD design and collaboration software: CATIA V5, Solid Works, 
Siemens NX, etc.
• Interest in 3D printing
• Participating in design projects involving structures: AIAA Design Build Fly competition, SAE 
Competitions, bridge design, etc.

Desired Skills:
• Knowledge of airframe components, their purpose and design requirements
• 3D CAD design: CATIA or NX
• Manufacturing capabilities
• Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Strong written and verbal communication

Education and Other Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following disciplines: 
    • • Detail Structural Design (preferred)
      • Preliminary Structural Design (preferred)
      • Mechanics of Materials (preferred)
      • Structural Analysis 
      • Statics & Mechanics
      • Aerodynamics, Mechanics of Machines, Machine Design
  • Must be available to work on-site in Savannah, GA during the Spring 2027 semester
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (without rounding); must be listed on resume.
