About Our Team
The Personal Lines Sales & Distribution team partners with independent agencies to drive profitable growth, strengthen agency relationships, and support strategic business objectives. Through sales programs, agency engagement, territory management, and business development initiatives, we help agencies grow their business while delivering results for Nationwide.
Success on our team requires strong relationship-building, communication, and problem-solving skills. Interns gain exposure to agency operations, sales strategy, territory management, producer engagement, and the independent agency channel while working alongside experienced sales and distribution professionals.
Job Summary
A day in the life of a PL Sales Relationships Intern might include:
- Participating in a comprehensive learning experience focused on sales, agency operations, and territory management.
- Partnering with Territory Representatives and Sales Relationship Specialists to support agency development and sales initiatives.
- Participating in virtual and in-person agency visits to gain firsthand exposure to agency operations and relationship management.
- Learning how agencies write business, grow profitability, and are compensated for their performance.
- Supporting sales programs, agency engagement initiatives, and producer recognition activities.
- Assisting with the Nationwide Rewards program, including program administration, performance evaluation, and communications.
- Analyzing sales and performance information to identify trends, growth opportunities, and return-on-investment insights.
- Utilizing tools such as Salesforce, AI technologies, and reporting resources to support sales and distribution initiatives.
- Learning and participating in Lean Six Sigma problem-solving and continuous improvement activities.
- Collaborating with sales team members, business partners, and fellow interns on projects and strategic initiatives.
- Completing a capstone project that identifies an opportunity within the Sales organization and presenting recommendations to Personal Lines Sales leadership.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

About You
A successful PL Sales Relationships Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Economics, Risk Management & Insurance, Communications, or a related field.
- Completion of junior year preferred.
- Involvement in student organizations, leadership activities, internships, or relevant work experience preferred.
Skills/Competencies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Interest in sales, relationship management, agency operations, or business development.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Exposure to AI tools and emerging technologies preferred.
- Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Professionalism, accountability, and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to adapt in a dynamic and evolving business environment.
Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program. At its sole discretion, Nationwide determines whether to offer sponsorship for qualifying positions based on business need and budget. However, sponsorship is not usually available for entry-level roles.
Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment.The national hourly pay range for Nationwide Internships is: $23 - $50
