About the Role

[What the role is]

The intern will work with Tote Board's Data Office on initiatives supporting data management, data integration, analytics and reporting. The role provides hands-on exposure to enterprise data platforms and modern data engineering practices, including Databricks, data quality management and business intelligence solutions. The intern will support data preparation, analysis, dashboard development and automation activities to improve data accessibility and support data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

[What you will be working on]

You will support the Data Management and Analytics Enablement Initiative, including:

Data management and integration

  • Consolidate data from multiple source systems.

  • Clean and validate data, including addressing duplicates and missing values.

  • Support data quality improvement activities.

  • Assist with data integration and transformation using Databricks and related tools.

Data analytics and reporting

  • Develop SQL queries to extract and analyse data.

  • Perform basic exploratory data analysis using Python or R.

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI or Tableau.

Data automation and engineering

  • Assist in streamlining data pipelines and recurring reporting processes.

  • Automate repetitive data preparation and reporting tasks.

  • Document data flows, processes and technical procedures.

Key deliverables may include:

  • Cleaned and validated datasets for analysis and reporting.

  • SQL queries and reusable scripts for data extraction and transformation.

  • Dashboard enhancements and visual reports in Power BI or Tableau.

  • Automated workflows or process improvements for recurring reporting.

  • Documentation covering data integration, data management and analytics processes.

  • A final presentation summarising project outcomes, findings and recommendations.

Project deliverables may be adjusted or rescoped according to operational needs.

Learning outcomes:

  • Gain practical experience in enterprise data management and governance.

  • Develop foundational skills in SQL, Python or R, and enterprise data platforms.

  • Learn data integration, transformation and data quality management techniques.

  • Build interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI or Tableau.

  • Understand end-to-end data lifecycle and analytics workflows.

  • Strengthen problem-solving, analytical and stakeholder communication skills.

  • Apply data engineering and analytics concepts in a public sector environment.

[What we are looking for]

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a university degree or polytechnic diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence or a related discipline.

  • Strong analytical, research, communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in SQL and Microsoft Excel.

  • Familiarity with Python or R, Power BI or Tableau, and Databricks.

  • Basic understanding of data management, data integration, and extract-transform-load or extract-load-transform concepts.

  • Ability to work carefully with data and document processes clearly.
