About The Company
Beam Therapeutics, launched in 2018, is pioneering the use of CRISPR base editing to develop a broad portfolio of advanced genetic medicines. Our groundbreaking base editing technology allows us to make permanent, specific edits to single bases in DNA and RNA, without cutting the strands. Base editor therapeutics represent a new class of “precision genetic medicines,” combining precision targeting of the genome with precision control of editing outcomes. Our dream is to provide life-long cures for patients suffering from serious diseases. The Beam Team Is: • A community of fearless innovators • Rigorous and honest in our research • Listening with open minds • Committed to each other
About the Role

Company Overview:

Beam Therapeutics is a biotechnology company committed to establishing the leading, fully integrated platform for precision genetic medicines. To achieve this vision, Beam has assembled a platform with integrated gene editing, delivery and internal manufacturing capabilities. Beam’s suite of gene editing technologies is anchored by base editing, a proprietary technology that is designed to enable precise, predictable and efficient single base changes, at targeted genomic sequences, without making double-stranded breaks in the DNA. This has the potential to enable a wide range of therapeutic editing strategies that Beam is using to advance a diversified portfolio of base editing programs. Beam is a values-driven organization committed to its people, cutting-edge science, and a vision of providing life-long cures to patients suffering from serious diseases.

Position Overview:

Beam is looking for a highly energetic Process Engineering Co-op to join our growing LNP Development Team from January through June 2027.  In this role, you will contribute to scale-up activities for Lipid Nanoparticle formulations and process development, troubleshooting strategies and data driven experimental designs for next-generation LNP formulations. You will work closely with the development team along with collaborating cross-functionally within a fast-paced environment to develop robust and scalable LNPs.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development, optimization, and scale-up of targeted lipid nanoparticle (tLNP) manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct formulation and process development studies involving LNP mixing, filtration, and tangential flow filtration (TFF) to evaluate and understand key product quality attributes.
  • Execute laboratory experiments to assess process performance and characterize the impact of critical process parameters on LNP quality, stability, and manufacturability.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives through experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting of formulation and manufacturing challenges.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across LNP Development, Analytical Development, and Process Optimization to advance project objectives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of experimental activities, analyze results, and present to the project team.
  • Follow all laboratory safety policies and procedures while supporting routine laboratory operations.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a BS or MS in Bioengineering, Biochemistry or any related field of study with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Strong interest in drug delivery, bioprocess development, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and data analytics tools required
  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with familiarity with process engineering concepts.
  • Highly motivated to learn, with excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
