About the Position

The Mass Properties Engineering team within Flight Sciences is seeking a software development intern to support the maintenance, enhancement, and integration of internal engineering data systems. This internship is intended for a student who is interested in applying software development skills in an aerospace engineering environment and contributing directly to tools used by engineers supporting aircraft manufacturing and new product development.

Skills you may gain

  • Support the continued development, maintenance, and improvement of an existing internal proprietary data management software package.
  • Assist with interfaces to broader company-wide data management systems and engineering workflows.
  • Help facilitate aircraft structure and systems data handling activities for the engineering team.
  • Respond to engineering data requests and support process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop familiarity with aircraft mass properties concepts, including component and assembly mass, center of gravity, and inertial properties.

Requirements

  • This position is specifically for the Summer 2027 semester. There are no openings for the spring or fall semesters.
  • Must be available for full-time, on-site work in Savannah, Georgia.
  • Must be actively enrolled in school at the time of the internship.
  • Expected graduation date must be between November 2027 and December 2028.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher must be included on the resume.

  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management concepts or engineering data management systems.
  • Understanding of design tree, product structure, or bill of materials organization methods.
  • Experience with compiled programming languages; preference for C#, XAML, .NET, Entity Framework, SQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
  • Previous exposure to mass properties, aircraft design, or other aerospace engineering disciplines.

Hobbies/Interests

  • Interest in aircraft-related topics such as aerodynamics, aircraft systems, avionics, loads and structures, flight operations, flight test, or manufacturing.
  • Mechanical or electrical hands-on experience, such as automotive, electronics, robotics, or similar technical hobbies.
  • Personal software projects, server administration, automation, or other self-directed technical work.
  • Experience with radio-controlled aircraft, model aircraft, simulation, or related aviation activities.
  • Private pilot experience or other exposure to piloted flight is a plus.

    Other Requirements:
    1. Must be enrolled as a full-time student at the time of application and actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher.
    2. Completion of sophomore year is required. prior to the internship start date.
    3. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (without rounding); must be listed on resume.
    4. Rotation Requirements: Juniors – 2 rotations; Seniors & Graduate Students – 1 rotation.
    5. Minimum duration: 12 weeks (summer); 14–16 weeks (spring and fall).
    6. Must be onsite; this is not a remote position.
    7. Must have reliable transportation.
    This job requires one to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
