About the Role

Field IT Support Intern

Location: Channelview, TX 

Employment Type: Internship, In-person

Timing: Summer, 12-15 weeks*

Position Summary

Gemma Power Systems is seeking a hands-on Field Information Technology (IT) Support Intern who is self-motivated and driven to support the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of critical network infrastructure and IT systems across active construction sites in Texas. As one of our technical resources in the field, you will help ensure reliable connectivity, optimal hardware performance, and responsive end-user support across multiple project locations. This role blends in-depth networking expertise with practical, on-site IT support.


Position Overview

Our IT team is committed to enabling seamless operations by supporting, implementing, and enhancing core business functions both in the field and at Gemma’s home office. We are looking for a problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced environments, takes the initiative, and leads by example through strong technical knowledge and a service-oriented mindset.


Job Responsibilities

  • Support the Field IT Support Engineer by acting as an IT point-of-contact for field staff, managing tickets & resolving incidents in a timely manner.
  • Support user devices via Azure Intune, resolving issues related to Windows devices, software, and Microsoft 365 applications (Teams, Outlook, etc.).
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot wired & wireless connectivity at job sites.
  • Deploy & support network infrastructure, including routers, switches, access points, firewalls, and mobile network hardware, throughout all phases of site mobilization.
  • Handle cabling, field installations, equipment upgrades, and on-site evaluations of network layout and performance.
  • Set up & configure network printers in construction trailers, ensuring proper connectivity, driver installation, and user access across local & cloud environments.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, network diagrams, and inventory records for all job site IT assets & configurations.
  • Enforce IT & physical security standards at all project sites.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Windows Environments, networking protocols, and IT infrastructure.
  • Ability to diagnose & resolve IT issues swiftly and effectively.
  • Possesses an understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, VLANs, routing, and switching.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory, and Intune device management.
  • Adheres to policies & procedures as documented for IT-related activities.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Cisco Meraki, and/or Ubiquiti networking equipment is a plus.
  • Previous work or intern experience in an IT helpdesk or IT support role is a plus.
  • Effective communication, time management, and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team.
  • Punctual and reliable with a commitment to daily attendance.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive company information.
  • Must be self-driven and adaptable.


Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be comfortable with frequently standing or moving around a heavy construction environment.
  • Will occasionally need to move boxes & equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • May require work in confined or elevated spaces, including occasional ladder use to service equipment.
  • Exposure to loud noise, varying weather conditions, and rugged or uneven environments, including extreme heat or cold.
  • Must wear steel-toe work boots or equivalent, along with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when on-site.
