Job Description

What’s Cyber Security in our Technology Division? At Wellmark we take a holistic approach to Cybersecurity. Identify and create risk management strategy and governance tools, structure and process. Protect through Identify and Access Management, training & awareness, data security, information protection processes & procedures. Detect anomalies and events through continuous monitoring and detection processes. Respond with communications, analysis, mitigation and continuous improvement. Recover with planning, communication and improvement.  

What projects might I support? Although subject to change, examples of projects you will be contributing to include: 

  • Work in the Security Operations Center 
  • Test, scan, monitor, and run different tools against current infrastructure  
  • Configure tools (data loss protection, email security, malware related, etc)  
  • Develop code – refine or augment existing tools, load results to a database or engine 
  • Process optimization 
  • Aid our Cyberthreat Intelligence group in analysis of DarkWeb activities 
  • Support Cyber Kill Chain and Threat Response enhancements

This internship will start in May of 2027, working a hybrid schedule from our headquarters in Des Moines. 

 

Qualifications

  • Current student pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related program 
  • Knowledge of scripting languages 
    • Python 
    • PowerShell 
    • Bash  
  • Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and analyze risks  
  • Effective troubleshooting/problem solving skills; breaking down problems to find the root-cause with the ability to generate solutions. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with the business areas
