Heidelberg Materials is one of the world's largest suppliers of building materials. Heidelberg Materials North America operates over 450 locations across the U.S. and Canada with approximately 9,000 employees.

Our Resource Recovery team is seeking a motivated Environmental Intern to support environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and operational excellence at our Harleyville, South Carolina facility. This internship offers hands-on experience in environmental management within an industrial manufacturing setting.
 

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support environmental compliance activities, inspections, and recordkeeping processes.
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting related to environmental performance.
  • Participate in site audits and help identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with operations teams on sustainability and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Contribute to special environmental projects while gaining exposure to regulatory requirements and best practices.
     

What Are We Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental compliance, stewardship, and sustainability practices.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new systems and processes.
     

Work Environment

  • Primarily based at an active industrial manufacturing facility.
  • Combination of office, laboratory, and outdoor field work.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions and operational environments.
  • Must be able to follow all safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Opportunity to work closely with environmental, operational, and leadership teams.
