Join the Delta Dental of Iowa Human Resources team during Summer 2027 as a Human Resources Intern where you will help support leaders and employees to create a workplace culture where everyone can thrive. Learn alongside a talented team to enhance the employee experience and contribute to projects in intern program coordination, talent acquisition, onboarding, compensation and benefits, training/development, and compliance.

This temporary internship will start on May 19, 2027, and work from our Johnston, Iowa location. Hours will be Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Learning Objectives:

  • Assist with Internship program coordination by planning, organizing and executing events and programs, collaborating with departments and HR team, and acting as liaison between interns and organizers, ensuring everyone stays informed and engaged. 
  • Prepare and facilitate weekly intern huddles by developing agendas, discussion topics, and communications that encourage engagement, build connections, and motivate interns to participate in program opportunities and events. 
  • Learn about the talent acquisition process by drafting advertisements, sharing ideas to expand brand awareness for new talent, organizing social posts with the Marketing team, and corresponding with candidates.
  • Welcome new employees by helping prepare onboarding materials and assisting with coordination of orientation activities.
  • Gain experience in employee compensation and benefits by creating training materials and updating the internal equity spreadsheet. 
  • Support a strong culture by helping plan and facilitate employee engagement events such as One Team days and the Summer Celebration. 
  • Explore learning and development programs by helping prepare a development session.
  • Research, analyze, and make recommendations based on HR best practices for talent acquisition, engagement, compliance, and employment law.
  • Gain exposure to HR compliance processes by assisting with internal audits, including I-9 and employee record audits, and supporting efforts to maintain accurate and organized employee documentation. 
  • Engage in programs and networking opportunities to strengthen business acumen in the insurance industry. 
  • Represent Delta Dental of Iowa in a professional manner both internally and externally.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  

Required: 

  1. Must be an undergraduate student working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Communications, or related field.
  2. Minimum 3.0 GPA (verified through transcript).
  3. Current enrollment in a college or university. 
  4. Familiarity with Microsoft programs including Excel, Word, Teams, Forms, and PowerPoint. 
  5. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  6. Strong attention to detail. 
  7. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  8. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  9. Self-motivated to learn and ability to work independently and with diverse groups.
  10. Participants will be required to submit a written analysis of project work and present a summary of analysis to leadership at the end of the program.
  11. Freshman and Sophomore candidates will participate in the Insure Your Future program with specific leadership development/networking opportunities.

Preferred: 

  1. Basic understanding of HR principles and employment.
