Join Delta Dental of Iowa during Summer 2027 as an Operations Business Analyst Intern. This is an opportunity for you to partner with Operations leaders and stakeholders to analyze data, evaluate business processes, and identify opportunities for improvement. You will assist in designing and developing reporting solutions, enhancing operational efficiency, and exploring the use of AI and emerging technologies to support business outcomes.

This temporary, full-time internship will start on May 19, 2027, and work from our Johnston, Iowa location. Hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

 Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze operational data to identify trends, generate insights, and support data-driven business decisions.
  • Design, build, and enhance reports and dashboards in Power BI while developing data visualization and analytics skills.
  • Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements, understand business needs, and strengthen professional communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Review existing business processes and workflows to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and operational improvement.
  • Explore AI, automation, and emerging technologies to recommend innovative solutions that improve productivity and business outcomes.
  • Assist with project planning, organization, and prioritization while gaining real-world project management experience.
  • Prepare and present findings, recommendations, and project updates to leaders and stakeholders, building presentation and communication skills.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external teams.
  • Complete special projects on time with high quality.
  • Engage in programs and networking opportunities to strengthen business acumen in the insurance industry. 
  • Support internship program by motivating and driving participation among intern peers to fully engage with opportunities available throughout the summer.
  • Represent Delta Dental of Iowa as well as the other Delta Dental companies in a professional manner both internally and externally.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

    

Required: 

  1. Must be an undergraduate student working toward a bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Management Information Systems (MIS), Business Administration, Economics, or related field.
  2. Minimum 3.0 GPA (verified through transcript).
  3. Current enrollment in a college or university.
  4. Experience with Microsoft products including Excel, Teams, PowerPoint or comparable business suite tools.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Strong attention to detail.
  7. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  8. Participants will be required to submit a written analysis of project work and present a summary of analysis to leadership at the end of the program.
  9. Freshman and Sophomore candidates will participate in the Insure Your Future program with specific leadership development/networking opportunities.

Preferred: 

  1. SharePoint and SQL experience.
