About the Role

Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm, invites you to join our internship experience for a limited-term, full-time summer internship with our Traffic Engineering & Advanced Mobility (TEAM) group.

 

Our TEAM focuses on the analysis, design, and implementation of traffic control devices (e.g., signing, pavement markings, traffic signals, roadway lighting) as well as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) such as variable speed limits and ramp metering along our roadways to improve traffic safety and mobility. In addition, we support corridor studies, safety audits, and complete streets initiatives to ensure our transportation network is efficient, accessible, and safe for all users: drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders alike.


Responsibilities include:

  • Traffic data collection & field work
  • Use CAD and/or traffic modeling software to assist with engineering drawings, plan preparation, and project reports
  • Research MUTCD, AASHTO, and local standards to support design recommendations
  • Collaborate with professional engineers to brainstorm innovative safety / mobility solutions
  • Other tasks as assigned

 

The ideal candidate will have any/all the following: 

  • Completed at least one transportation engineering related course
  • Prior related internship experience
  • Knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Experience with traffic simulation software (e.g., HCS, Synchro)
  • A passion to contribute to innovative solutions that improve our transportation systems

 

Physical Requirements:

This role involves working outdoors on a regular basis in various conditions, including live traffic environments, and requires the ability to lift and squat at least 25 pounds.

Hourly Rate Range: $21.00 to $26.00 – Actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as: experience, skill set or location.
