About the Role

Acron Aviation is seeking motivated and innovative Software Engineering interns to join our engineering teams in Phoenix, Arizona.


This full-time, onsite internship is anticipated to run May through August and provides an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a professional engineering environment. You will work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to the development, testing, integration, and support of software for aviation products and technologies.


Depending on the assigned location, team, and product line, you may gain experience throughout the software development lifecycle, including software requirements, design, coding, debugging, verification, integration testing, problem investigation, technical documentation, and process improvement. What You Will Do
  • Responsibilities may vary based on your assigned location, team, product line, academic background, and current business needs. Examples include:
  • Work under the guidance of experienced software engineers and technical team members.
  • Assist with interpreting, developing, and implementing software requirements.
  • Support software design, coding, debugging, testing, and documentation.
  • Develop or update software requirements-based test cases and verification procedures.
  • Participate in software unit, integration, and system-level testing.
  • Support pre-integration and post-integration testing activities.
  • Assist with software verification and branch coverage analysis.
  • Investigate, analyze, and help resolve internal and external software problem reports.
  • Document test results, technical findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
  • Support the development and maintenance of internal software tools.
  • Use configuration management and change management tools in accordance with established engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Test, Manufacturing, Quality, and other Software Engineering teams.
  • Participate in technical reviews and software process improvement activities.
  • Contribute to the development and support of embedded software, application software, test software, or engineering tools.
  • Perform other software engineering assignments aligned with your academic background and the needs of the assigned team.


Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Expected to have completed at least two years of undergraduate study before the internship begins.
  • Foundational knowledge of software development concepts, programming, and problem-solving.
  • Academic, project, or practical programming experience in at least one programming language.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective verbal communication, technical writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based engineering environment.
  • Ability to learn new programming languages, development tools, technologies, and engineering processes.
  • Ability to work full-time and onsite at the assigned Acron Aviation location for the duration of the internship
  • This position may require access to information, technology, software, or hardware that is subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations. To comply with these requirements, applicants must qualify as a US Person.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework, project experience, prior internship experience, or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
  • C, C++, C#, Python, SQL, or other relevant programming languages
  • Object-oriented programming and software design principles
  • Embedded software or real-time systems
  • Software requirements and requirements-based testing
  • Software verification, debugging, and integration testing
  • Unit testing, code coverage, or automated testing
  • Configuration management, change management, or version-control tools
  • Linux, QNX, VxWorks, Integrity, Windows, or other operating environments
  • Qt or other user-interface development frameworks
  • Processor-based or hardware-integrated software development
  • Technical documentation and software design artifacts
  • Aerospace, aviation, or another regulated industry
  • Agile or other software development methodologies
  • Technical clubs, programming competitions, research, or relevant academic projects
