Spring 2027 Corporate Communications + Community Impact Intern
The Corporate Communications + Community Impact intern will support Norfolk Southern’s integrated communications team in the Atlanta office. This role will assist staff with internal communications, external communications, social media, brand and creative services, digital content, and community impact storytelling. Daily, an intern within Corporate Communications + Community Impact will help draft and edit content, support publication workflows, conduct research, organize project materials, review communications data, and assist with department projects as assigned. This opportunity affords interns exposure to multiple communications functions across Norfolk Southern and the chance to contribute clear, engaging content for employees, external stakeholders, community partners, and digital audiences.

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills
- Curiosity about how data and analytics can inform communications planning and content performance + how macro industry topics/issues could impact NS reputation/operations
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
- Solid interpersonal skills along with the ability to receive and grow from constructive feedback
- Ability to interact with various levels of the organization while being positive and professional
- Professional judgment and discretion when working with sensitive or not-yet-public information
Education/Experience:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree
- Preferred Degree Paths: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, Business, Nonprofit Management, or similar fields of study will be considered
- Prior internship, campus communications, student media, agency, nonprofit, marketing, public relations, or social media experience preferred
- Experience drafting content for newsletters, websites, social media, blogs, press materials, presentations, or employee communications preferred
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools, content management systems, social media management tools, project management tools, analytics dashboards, or spreadsheets preferred
A Day in the Life of a Corporate Communications + Community Impact Intern
In this role, the intern may help prepare copy and assets for internal and external channels; support editorial calendars, events, and project status updates; conduct research for media relations, community impact, social media, and employee communications projects; review performance data to identify trends and recommendations; contribute ideas in team meetings; track follow-ups; and help maintain shared communications resources and templates.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time opportunity. Hybrid office environment in Atlanta, GA. Occasional support may be needed for events, meetings, or time-sensitive communications, with limited travel, if any.
