Your Impact
As a Winter Tax Intern, you will gain hands-on experience preparing individual income tax returns while learning how a public accounting firm operates during tax season. You will work alongside members of our tax team who will provide guidance, answer questions, review your work, and help you build your technical and professional skills. Through our formal Buddy Program and support from multiple team members, you will have access to the resources and feedback needed to succeed throughout your internship.
How You Will Add Value
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing primarily individual income tax returns (Form 1040)
- Assisting with more complex individual returns, personal property tax returns, and business or partnership returns as opportunities are available
- Preparing trial balances, workpapers, and depreciation schedules using Microsoft Excel and Word
- Learning and following the firm’s policies, procedures, and quality standards
- Developing an understanding of the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct established by the AICPA
- Communicating questions and project updates to members of the tax team
- Participating in firm activities and building relationships with professionals across the organization
What We’re Looking For
- Current undergraduate, graduate, nontraditional student, or recent graduate
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in accounting or a related field
- Preferred minimum GPA of 3.0
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback, and learn
- Ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word

This internship is offered on-site at our West Michigan offices in Grand Rapids, Greenville, Muskegon, Holland, and St. Joseph.
Hungerford welcomes candidates eligible for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT) to apply. However, the firm cannot guarantee future employment sponsorship.
