About the Role

Mechanical Engineering Internship


Scot Forge Company is looking to hire a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the summer of 2027 at the corporate facility in Spring Grove, IL. A Mechanical Engineering Internship at Scot Forge will provide a variety of experiences and exposure to the manufacturing environment, and application of engineering theory through project work. This internship will be part of an multi discipline team with collaborative projects and daily tasks to support continuous improvement and expansion of manufacturing production equipment.


Anticipated Projects:

  • Assist the facilities engineering team with continuous improvement and machine projects
  • Mechanical design
    • Research and development for new processes and equipment
    • Mechanical layout of systems/components (SolidWorks part & assembly modeling)
    • Design and/or select mechanical components for machinery (gearing, shafting, bearings, linkages, frames, cylinders, tools, jigs, fasteners, etc.)
  • Reverse engineer of existing mechanical components – analyze the mode of failure, accurately measure the component, redesign (if necessary), and create blueprints
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of internal and external manufacturing capabilities for the design of custom components and machines
  • Redesign/improve equipment based on operational support requests

 

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree majoring in Mechanical Engineering
    • Rising Junior or higher at start of internship
  • Experience using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be authorized to work anywhere in the U.S.
  • Must be able to pass a 90-day head hair drug test today.

The estimated pay range for this position is the lowest and highest range we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We ultimately may pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. The actual base pay offered to a candidate will depend on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, qualifications, education, certifications, seniority, geographic location and prevailing minimum wage, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.
