About the Role
VLS Environmental Solutions is seeking a Process Engineer Intern to support Rail and Marine Operations by analyzing operational workflows, documentation, and communication systems within the facility. This role focuses on identifying gaps between documented procedures and day-to-day execution while helping improve operational clarity, safety documentation, and leadership alignment.
The intern will work directly with facility leadership and frontline teams to review operational procedures, evaluate communication processes, and assist in developing a leadership playbook that defines roles and expectations for operations management.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review current operations and safety procedures to ensure documentation is accurate, clear, and aligned with actual practices.
  • Supports the Identify gaps between documented procedures and operational execution.
  • Assists in evaluating communication methods, documentation systems, and digital tools used in rail operations.
  • Analyze operational roles and responsibilities to clarify leadership ownership within the facility.
  • Assist in developing a leadership playbook for the Facility Manager and operations leadership team.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Junior or Senior status by fall of 2027.
  • 3.0 GPA
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze processes and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
