About the Role
Are you passionate about public policy, government affairs, stakeholder engagement, and understanding how regulatory decisions shape industries and society?



Prudential Malaysia is seeking a highly motivated Government Relations Intern to join our Government Relations team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to policy development, regulatory affairs, strategic stakeholder management, and the intersection between government policy and the financial services industry.



As a Government Relations Intern, you will work alongside experienced professionals to monitor emerging policy developments, support engagement initiatives with government and industry stakeholders, and contribute to strategic analysis that helps shape business decisions.



This role is ideal for students interested in public policy, political science, economics, law, public administration, communications, international relations, or business strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Research & Analysis

  • Conduct research on government policies, regulatory developments, and socio-economic issues affecting the insurance and financial services industry.
  • Analyse proposed legislation, public policy initiatives, and regulatory consultations.
  • Prepare briefing materials, policy summaries, stakeholder profiles, and executive reports.
  • Develop policy papers, issue analyses, and presentations for internal stakeholders.
     

Stakeholder Engagement Support

  • Support the planning and coordination of engagements with government agencies, regulators, policymakers, industry associations, and other key stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing meeting materials, briefing notes, speaking points, and stakeholder mapping exercises.
  • Monitor and track stakeholder interactions and engagement outcomes.
     

Policy Monitoring & Intelligence

  • Track developments across government ministries, regulatory agencies, Parliament, industry bodies, and relevant public policy forums.
  • Monitor political, economic, and social developments that may impact the insurance sector and Prudential's business environment.
  • Provide timely updates and actionable insights to the Government Relations team.
     

Strategic Projects

  • Support the development of stakeholder engagement strategies for specific regulatory, legislative, or policy initiatives.
  • Participate in projects related to healthcare policy, financial inclusion, digital economy initiatives, ESG, and the evolving insurance landscape.
  • Assist with special projects involving public-private partnerships and industry collaborations.
     

Event & Administrative Coordination

  • Assist in organising stakeholder meetings, workshops, roundtables, and industry events.
  • Support logistics, scheduling, and event execution.
  • Maintain stakeholder databases, engagement trackers, and policy monitoring tools.
  • Ensure timely documentation of key discussions, action items, and follow-up activities.

Who We're Looking For

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in: Public Policy Political Science Economics Law Public Administration International Relations Communications Business Administration Or related disciplines
     

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to synthesise complex information into concise, actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interest in public policy, government affairs, and regulatory developments.
     

Advantageous

  • Previous involvement in student leadership, debating, Model United Nations, policy competitions, research projects, or public affairs-related activities.
  • Familiarity with Malaysian public policy and government institutions.
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills.
