We are seeking a highly motivated Metrology Engineering Intern to support operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives within a semiconductor manufacturing environment. This internship is intended for a Junior or Senior undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
The successful candidate will work closely with Metrology Engineers, Process Engineers, Equipment Engineers, Manufacturing, and Industrial Engineering teams to identify and execute opportunities that improve factory productivity, increase equipment utilization, reduce operational waste, and streamline metrology workflows. This role provides hands-on exposure to semiconductor metrology systems, factory operations, data analytics, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Responsibilities
Factory Operational Efficiency
- Support projects focused on reducing non-value-added activities and improving metrology productivity.
- Monitor metrology tool utilization, queue times, cycle time, and throughput performance.
- Identify bottlenecks within metrology operations and recommend solutions to improve factory efficiency.
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Operational Excellence initiatives.
Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Collect, organize, and analyze manufacturing and metrology equipment performance data.
- Perform statistical analysis using Minitab, Excel, and other engineering tools.
- Participate in AI integrated tool Alarm and spec hold response optimization
Metrology Process Support
- Gain exposure to semiconductor metrology techniques including critical dimension (CD) measurements, overlay measurements, film thickness measurements, defect inspection, and process control methodologies.
- Support engineers in evaluating measurement performance and identifying efficiency improvement opportunities.
- Participate in measurement system analysis (MSA), GR&R studies, and tool-to-tool matching activities.
- Observe and participate in problem-solving efforts related to measurement accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility, and equipment performance.
Present project updates and final recommendations to engineering and management teams.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in:
- Electrical Engineering (EE)
- Materials Science
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Other related STEM disciplines
- Junior or Senior undergraduate standing preferred.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel for data analysis and visualization.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

onsemi is excited to share the base salary range for this position is $26.00 -$44.00 per hour exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. The final pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, education, experience, and/or consideration of internal equity of our current team members.
