Position Overview:
This is a part-time role for a Lab Technician Intern at Spirit Electronics located in Phoenix, AZ. The Lab Tech Intern will play a vital role in the reliability lab for the inspection, testing, and analysis of microelectronics, semiconductors, EEE components, and circuit card assemblies. The Lab Tech Intern performs testing and operations, including sample preparation, setup, testing, data recording, analysis, and reporting. Tests include MIL-STD-883 test methods, JEDEC, and other industry-standard procedures as well as customer-specified requirements. The Lab Tech Intern will operate electrical test equipment, environmental chambers, and inspection equipment (X-ray, CSAM, SEM), and record results for analysis to meet the requirements established by the lab’s engineers. This role requires attention to detail, technical expertise, and the ability to work efficiently in a quality-minded manufacturing environment. This role will be responsible for the data collection and analysis on samples and reporting them out to the engineering teams. Lastly, this role will be responsible for maintaining supplies, equipment calibration and meeting the customer delivery dates.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct reliability testing on electronic components according to MIL-STD-883, relevant industry standards, and work order specifications
- Perform electrical, mechanical, environmental, and inspection tests on components and assemblies
- Operate reliability equipment, environmental chambers, and other lab machinery
- Devise voltage biasing and current monitoring on jobs
- Set up burn-in drivers, programmed drivers, and test boards
- Maintain assets under preventative maintenance and periodic calibration cycles
- Bench test boards and hardware
- Operate workflows, processes, and machinery to quality management requirements and documented procedures
- Collect, record, and analyze test data utilizing specialized software and ERP system
- Assist in the preparation of test samples and fixtures
- Maintain accurate and detailed test logs and reports
- Collaborate with engineers to interpret test results and troubleshoot issues
- Ensure compliance with personnel and product safety protocols, including ESD and FOD control and other quality control procedures
- Assist in the development and improvement of testing methodologies
- Support the lab in maintaining a clean and organized work environment
- Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to increase efficiency and reduce errors
Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in an accredited high school, university or college pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree.
- Understanding of basic engineering principles, preferably in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related fields.
- Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles (circuits, voltage, current, resistance)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with technical customers.
- Enthusiasm for sales and a desire to learn about selling technical products.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software.
- Familiarity with common laboratory instruments like oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and data loggers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
