Interested in the insurance industry but more drawn to client service, problem-solving, and building long-term relationships than traditional sales?
Heffernan’s Insurance Service Internship provides an inside look at what it takes to deliver exceptional service to insurance clients. You’ll work alongside experienced insurance professionals and gain hands-on exposure to the day-to-day operations of an insurance brokerage.
Throughout the 10-week program, you’ll learn how insurance policies and client relationships are managed after the sale, how service teams support clients throughout the policy lifecycle, and how different departments work together to deliver an exceptional client experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Shadow experienced insurance service professionals and account teams.
- Learn how insurance accounts are managed and serviced throughout the policy lifecycle.
- Gain exposure to client communication, account management, renewals, and day-to-day client needs
- Assist with research, account preparation, and other service-related projects.
- Learn how insurance policies, coverage, and documentation are organized and managed.
- Participate in client meetings and team meetings when appropriate.
- Learn how service teams partner with insurance carriers and internal departments.
- Gain exposure to different areas of insurance, including commercial insurance, business insurance, employee benefits, and/or personal lines.
- Assist with data gathering, analysis, and preparation of client materials.
- Learn how service teams identify and resolve client issues.
- Develop an understanding of the relationship between sales, service, and the overall client experience.
- Participate in insurance education and training opportunities.
- Complete an intern group project and present your work to Heffernan leadership.
- Participate in networking, mentoring, and professional development activities throughout the summer.
What We Are Looking For
- Students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of college. Graduating seniors will also be considered.
- Interested in insurance, client service, account management, or business operations.
- Strong communicators who enjoy helping others and solving problems.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Comfortable learning new systems, processes, and concepts.
- Curious and willing to ask questions.
- Able to work collaboratively with a team.
- Reliable, motivated, and willing to take initiative.
- Collaborative and comfortable working as part of a team.
- Proactive and willing to take initiative.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA preferred.
- Ability to receive coaching and feedback and apply it to improve performance.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
