Job Description

AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in New York, New York October 15th and 16th.  This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2027.

The event kicks off on Thursday evening with a networking mixer from 6-8 pm, where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines.

On Friday, interviews will take place at our New York office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities.

AECOM is actively seeking a bright and highly motivated Program Controls Intern – Water for employment in our Water Business Line based out of our New York, NY office.

The Program Controls Intern will support project and program management teams with financial tracking, cost and schedule analysis, reporting, and administrative activities. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with program controls and develop an understanding of how large-scale water and infrastructure projects are planned, monitored, and delivered.

This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2027.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing project financial, cost, schedule, labor, and performance data against established budgets and baselines.
  • Gain exposure to program controls concepts including Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), earned value, cost forecasting, scheduling, scope control, and change management.
  • Support tracking of project costs, purchase orders, subconsultant commitments, expenditures, and funding limitations.
  • Assist with monitoring project progress and performance trends and contribute to the preparation of accurate reports, dashboards, and project deliverables.
  • Support the maintenance of program controls systems used to monitor cost, schedule, risk, and documentation progress.
  • Assist with administrative and coordination activities related to project teams, subconsultants, and program controls deliverables.
  • Provides support to tracking purchase order and subcontract commitments and expenditures.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, AECOM Global teams, and other project stakeholders while developing knowledge of financial, accounting, and project management principles.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Construction Management or related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. 
  • Must have completed 3 years of study.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Water project experience for multiple agencies in NY/NJ metro area (e.g. NYCDEP)
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Power BI Software.
  • NYCDEP 4-hr Scaffolding Training.
  • NYSDEC 4-hr Erosion and Sediment Control Training.
  • PMIS Trimble/e-builder experience.
  • NYCDEP BEDC EHS Standards Training (4 Hour).
  • OSHA 10.
