Are you an environmental, geology, or hydrogeology student looking for more than just a summer job? Water & Environmental Technologies (WET) is seeking a motivated Environmental/Geoscience Intern to join our team for Summer 2027 in our Kalispell, Montana office.

This internship gives you the opportunity to put classroom knowledge into practice while working alongside experienced engineers and technical professionals. You’ll contribute to real consulting projects, gain hands-on field experience, and develop practical skills that will help prepare you for a career in engineering consulting.

What You'll Do

As an Environmental/Geoscience Intern, you’ll support a variety of consulting projects throughout the Rocky Mountain region. The position will include a combination of field and office work, providing opportunities to apply engineering principles, learn from experienced professionals, and gain exposure to the day-to-day work of a consulting engineer.

Some overnight travel will likely be required.

Depending on project needs and your experience level, you will have opportunities to learn and assist with:

  • Air, soil, surface water, and groundwater sampling and monitoring 
  • Environmental data collection, management, analysis, and interpretation 
  • Monitoring well design, installation, development, and sampling 
  • Drilling, well construction, and aquifer testing oversight 
  • Hydrogeologic investigations for groundwater supply and water resource projects
  • Groundwater flow, contaminant plume, and potentiometric surface mapping 
  • Contaminated site investigations, remediation, and environmental cleanup 
  • Geologic and subsurface investigations, including soil and rock logging 
  • Mine and industrial permitting, environmental monitoring, and regulatory compliance 
  • Mine reclamation and closure projects 
  • Habitat, wetland, and environmental resource assessments 
  • Water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects 
  • Construction observation, inspection, and field documentation 
  • Site development, grading, drainage, and civil infrastructure support 
  • GIS mapping, spatial analysis, and preparation of project figures 
  • Field investigations, surveying/GPS data collection, and site documentation 
  • Engineering and scientific calculations and data evaluation 
  • Preparation of technical reports, permit applications, plans, specifications, and other project deliverables

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be currently enrolled in an environmental engineering, geoscience, hydrogeology, or related degree program
  • Have some coursework, internship, or other experience related to environmental engineering or geoscience
  • Be self-motivated, dependable, and energetic
  • Have a willingness to learn and take on new challenges
  • Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Have strong communication and organizational skills
  • Be comfortable working in the field and outdoors in a variety of conditions
  • Be willing and able to travel, including occasional overnight travel
  • Have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites
