Position Summary

We have a current vacancy for a Computer Science Intern or Coop to join our Team in Ottawa, Ontario.

Thales Canada, Defence & Security is engaged in supporting the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) through its In-Service Support (ISS) Programs. Between the AOPS & JSS In-Service Support (AJISS) and Minor Warships & Auxiliary Vessels (MWAV) programs, Thales Canada provides support to over 70% of the RCN fleet. Thales Canada is leveraging cutting edge solutions to deliver preventative and corrective maintenance, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Program Management, Engineering and Lifecycle Material Management (LCMM), and new capabilities to numerous platforms.

Thales Canada is looking for people interested in directly contributing to Engineering Change (EC) in the AJISS program. A multi-disciplinary team develops and delivers enhanced and new capabilities for RCN platforms through a broad portfolio of EC projects. We are looking for computer science students to help us develop and document the Engineering Change process, develop tools to track and monitor KPIs.  The are several areas where the students can help improve efficiency and reporting.

Key Areas of Responsibility  

  • Work with the System Engineering and Engineering Delivery Manager teams to:

  • Evaluate data flow throughout the Engineering Change process to better configure and optimize the engineering tools.

  • Using tool APIs, extract data from several different toolsets (tasks management (Jira), project management (P6)…) into a single data repository to facilitate dashboards and data reporting. 

  • Build PowerBI dashboards and repositories. Extract, transform and anlayze large datasets using PowerBI, DAX and Power Query.

  • Develop tools to track and monitor progress of each of the ECs.

  • Develop and deliver training materials on the EC process and tools

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Being enrolled in Computer Science program in accredited university.

  • High level oral and written communication skills required for report writing, design justification documentation, and interacting with the customer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Dashboard and data management

  • High level of planning, task management, analytical, and time management skills

  • Experience in Power BI and data extraction. Experience using PowerBI and Power Query to extract and transform data into useful insights.

  • Programming / scripting experience in VBA, C#, or others

Special Position Requirements

Travel: Some overnight travel may be required (<10%)

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) $55,000 - $65,000 CAD Annual.

This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity.
