About the Role

Description

Ironmark Building Co. is looking for an Estimating Intern to begin in mid-late May 2027. You will assist the Preconstruction team in evaluating project documents, developing estimates, soliciting subcontractor pricing, and compiling the information necessary to prepare competitive and comprehensive bids.

You will gain knowledge and experience while assisting with project setup, bid strategy, quantity takeoffs, subcontractor solicitation, price vetting, and estimate assembly and review. You will also have opportunities to interact with subcontractors, vendors, and members of the project team throughout the estimating process. The level of involvement depends on specific project needs, Preconstruction team needs, and your individual abilities. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and understand how projects are evaluated, priced, and pursued from the early stages of construction. While primarily an office position, you may spend time at the jobsite or gain exposure to project management and field operations as opportunities arise.


You will assist the Preconstruction team with the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with project setup and organization of bid documents
  • Review and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Perform quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam and On-Screen Takeoff (OST)
  • Assist with subcontractor and vendor solicitation
  • Track subcontractor bid coverage and follow up with bidders
  • Review and compare subcontractor/vendor proposals and pricing
  • Assist with bid leveling and identification of scope gaps
  • Support estimate assembly, review, and bid strategy
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and estimate reviews as applicable
  • Assist with additional estimating and preconstruction activities based on project needs

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year Construction Program
  • Basic knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods, etc.) as well as an understanding of industry practices, processes and standards and their impact on project activities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Strong interpersonal skills are a must as you will interact with multiple Estimators requesting assistance in a variety of areas
  • Must be a self-starter with a proactive approach who can adapt easily to a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a positive attitude and strong desire to learn
  • Ability to effectively present information and provide a verbal and/or written response
  • Ability to read, write, spell, speak, and understand English to effectively write reports and business correspondence and can perform math calculations including algebra and geometry
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
