About the Role

Join Our Movement!

We are seeking a motivated Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Intern to support Burke’s safety, health and environmental programs. The EHS Intern will report to the EHS Leader and work closely with employees, supervisors and Safety Committee members. This role provides real-world experience with OSHA compliance, hazard identification, incident prevention, industrial hygiene, employee training, environmental compliance and continuous improvement.

The Role

  

Safety and EHS Support

  • Hazard Assessments/Safety Improvements – Evaluate a department, identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and track improvements.
  • Industrial Hygiene – Assist with noise, welding fume, and dust sampling and review potential exposure controls.
  • OSHA Standards/Compliance – Research specific OSHA standards, compare them to our current practices, and identify any opportunities for improvement.
  • Employee Safety Training – Develop and possibly deliver a safety training topic, toolbox talk, or awareness campaign.
  • LOTO or Forklift Safety – Review procedures/practices and help identify improvements.
  • Environmental/ISO 14001 – Assist with environmental aspects, waste streams, recycling, wastewater, stormwater, or other ISO initiatives.
  • Emergency Preparedness – Review emergency procedures, participate in drills, and identify  possible improvements.

Qualifications That Move Us!

  • Currently pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, Engineering, Operations/Manufacturing or a related field. 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. 
  • Self-motivated, eager to learn, willing to ask questions and able to contribute practical ideas.
