About the Role

Description

Join Our Movement!

Burke is growing rapidly and we’re looking for an organized, communicative, team-focused Logistics Intern to join our team! The Logistics Intern will gain hands-on experience in transportation, distribution, and supply chain operations while supporting the daily shipping needs of Burke's Logistics Department. This position will work closely with Logistics Coordinators to process parcel, LTL, and truckload shipments while developing an understanding of transportation planning, freight documentation, carrier management, customer communication, and logistics systems.

In addition to supporting daily operations, the Logistics Intern will participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on transportation efficiency, cost reduction, process improvement, and shipment accuracy. This position provides an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world logistics operations while working with Logistics, Customer Service, Sales, Production, Purchasing, and Distribution Center teams.

What Moves You?

We’re not going to lie; this is an amazing opportunity. It requires hard work, a lot of innovation and enthusiasm and, of course, an abundance of Purple Passion (def. a love of play, bringing play to communities and specific love of Burke and those you work with)!

The Role

  • Assist Logistics Coordinators with daily parcel, LTL, and truckload shipping activities, including shipment processing, documentation, tracking, and order verification.
  • Assist with preparing and maintaining accurate shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading, Master Packs, labels, and other required paperwork.
  • Utilize Logistics systems and tools to support daily operations, data collection, reporting, and assigned projects.
  • Work with Logistics team members and cross-functional departments to understand processes, identify opportunities, and support problem resolution.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data for assigned continuous improvement projects.
  • Develop recommendations and assist with implementation and measurement of assigned process improvements when appropriate.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation related to daily activities and assigned projects.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Learning and Growth Opportunity

  • Gain practical exposure to parcel, LTL, and truckload transportation and develop an understanding of the end-to-end order fulfillment and shipping process.
  • Learn how transportation decisions, carrier selection, freight costs, shipment characteristics, and service requirements impact Logistics operations.
  • Gain hands-on experience with shipping documentation and Logistics systems, including WMS, ERP (Epicor), SQL, WorkWise, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Develop data analysis, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills through real-world Logistics activities.
  • Work with the Logistics team to identify and evaluate opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and increased efficiency.
  • Complete meaningful Logistics projects during the internship and present findings, recommendations, and/or results to the team.
