About the Role

4-Month Co-op Term | January 2027 to April 2027

Please note: This role may require frequent travel to 200 Steeprock Drive, North York, as well as travel throughout the GTHA.

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Bus Fleet Maintenance Engineering Office is looking for a Co-op Student to support initiatives that improve the reliability, performance, and availability of the bus fleet.

Working alongside the Equipment Engineering and Technical Support Services team, you will assist with investigating equipment issues, analyzing performance data, and developing solutions to improve fleet operations. You will also collaborate with stakeholders across operations, safety, maintenance, and engineering teams.

What will I be doing?

  • Support engineering initiatives to improve fleet reliability and availability.
  • Assist with investigating equipment issues and performing root cause analysis using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Analyze maintenance and component failure data to identify trends and support predictive maintenance initiatives.
  • Support the development of technical service bulletins and engineering recommendations.
  • Assist with evaluating pilot projects and emerging technologies for compatibility with fleet assets.
  • Research industry trends and technologies to improve fleet performance and maintenance practices.
  • Collaborate with operational and technical stakeholders on engineering projects.
  • Travel throughout the GTHA to support field investigations and project activities.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

Required

  • Currently enrolled full-time in a recognized post-secondary co-op program and eligible to complete a co-op work term as part of your academic requirements, with plans to return to school following the work term.
  • Enrolled in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related program.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in both hands-on and data-driven investigations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Interest in fleet maintenance, reliability engineering, or equipment optimization.
     

Assets

  • Knowledge of diesel vehicle or automotive systems.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working with data analysis tools or large datasets.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python, R, or other scripting languages.
