JOB DESCRIPTION
The Social Media Intern will support UNCF’s Branding, Marketing, and Communications team in developing, scheduling, and monitoring content that strengthens UNCF’s digital presence. This role is ideal for a creative, organized, and digitally savvy student who wants hands-on experience elevating UNCF’s member institutions, students, programs, events, and organizational priorities across social media and digital channels.
At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will complete a final project that showcases their contributions and learning. Deliverables may include: 3–5 published or contributed pieces (e.g., blog posts, social media content, press releases), Mid-term and final reflection presentations, One capstone project (e.g., campaign concept, social media toolkit, or story series). By the end of the internship, the intern will: gain practical experience in nonprofit communications and branding, strengthen their ability to communicate across platforms and audiences, build a professional portfolio of creative and strategic work, and deepen their understanding of UNCF’s mission and impact.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Content Calendar and Scheduling
- Assist with developing and maintaining UNCF’s social media content calendar.
- Schedule approved content across UNCF’s social media platforms.
Content Creation
- Use approved templates and brand guidelines to create engaging social media graphics.
- Draft and edit social media captions and other short-form digital content.
Research and Storytelling
- Research HBCU, higher education, student success, and cultural trends to identify timely and relevant content opportunities.
- Monitor UNCF’s member institutions for news, accomplishments, events, research, and compelling stories that can be amplified through UNCF’s social media channels.
Campaign Support and Reporting
- Support social media campaigns related to UNCF events, programs, initiatives, and organizational priorities.
- Support basic social media performance tracking and reporting.
Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with team members responsible for social media, content development, creative services, and digital communications.
Final Project & Presentation
- Lead a culminating project that synthesizes key learnings and contributions throughout the internship, with a final presentation delivered to stakeholders
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university (junior, senior, or graduate student preferred)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Strong editing and proofreading skills.
- Demonstrated interest in social media, digital communications, marketing, or public relations.
- Experience creating graphics or other visual content.
- Experience using Canva.
- Strong research and information-gathering skills.
- Creativity and an ability to identify engaging content ideas.
- Close attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Sound judgment and professionalism when representing the UNCF brand.
- Availability to work onsite during our core hours Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends event(s).
