Your mission

We are looking for a Working Student Designer to join our Heartbeat AI product design team, with a focus on our design system.

This is not a “side tasks only” role, and it is not a senior product-ownership role either. You will help shape the shared design language behind Heartbeat, components, tokens, patterns, and documentation, so our teams can design and ship more consistently.

You balance two things well: high autonomy and proactive problem-solving (including modern tools and AI), and a thoughtful, deliberate approach to design system architecture. You do not have to know it all. You do need to find smart ways to learn, stay open to explore, and care about making the system better for everyone who uses it.

As a Working Student Designer you will

• Contribute to our scalable, code-aligned design system and help keep it consistent across Heartbeat
• Audit, structure, and document components, tokens, and UI patterns
• Support designers and engineers with reusable building blocks that speed up handoff
• Use AI and modern tools (Figma, Claude, Cursor) to explore, document, and iterate faster, without skipping the thinking
• Partner with designers and engineers; ask good questions; and make your decisions easy to follow
• Tools: Figma & Claude or Cursor
• Skills: Design systems, UI craft, documentation, AI-assisted workflows, collaboration

Your profile

You don’t need to tick every box. If this sounds like the designer you’re becoming, we want to hear from you.

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in UX, Interaction Design, HCI, Visual Communication, or a related field
• Systems-curious: you care how one component, token, or naming decision scales
• Autonomous: you spot gaps, propose a next step, and follow through
• Deliberate: you move with pace, but you don’t rush architecture
• Eager to learn: you don’t know it all, and you find smart ways to get unstuck
• AI-curious: you already use (or are excited to use) AI as a real part of your workflow, and you can show how
• Craft-minded: you have a sense of quality for visual design, interaction, and consistency; academic projects are welcome
• Clear communicator: English is our working language; German is a plus
