Intern, Naval Architecture - 8 Months

As the Intern, Naval Architecture Intern, you will support the Manager, Naval Architecture in executing the successful completion of design, analysis and production support activities through the phases of the project. This role provides hands-on exposure to ship design, engineering, and construction within a complex shipbuilding environment.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, V7P 2R2

What you'll do:

In this role, you will provide day-to-day support while assisting and coordinating specific activities, including:

• Support the preparation, development, review, and tracking of design deliverables, drawings, calculations, technical reports and specifications.
• Assist with stability, weight management, arrangement development, and performance analyses.
• Coordinate the flow of technical information between engineering disciplines, production teams, suppliers, and other project stakeholders. 
• Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and technical discussions, while documenting actions and following up on assigned tasks. 
• Assist with surveying to verify design compliance.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering tools, processes, templates, and best practices. 
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help ensure that technical requirements, schedules, and project objectives are achieved. 
• Maintain accurate engineering records and support document control activities in accordance with Seaspan’s processes.

What you’ll bring:

• Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline, or be accepted into a Master’s degree program in Naval Architecture. 
• Be eligible to meet the criteria for Reliability and Controlled Goods Security Clearance.
• Interested students should have a passion for shipbuilding and be interested in implementing Naval Architecture concepts within a production environment. 
• Students must be comfortable working in a heavy industrial setting.
• Strong technical skills include the ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information.
• Experience and proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, Cadmatic, General Hydrostatics (GHS), ShipWeight, NAPA, ShipMo, or similar design tools is considered an asset.
• Excellent digital literacy including programs that are a part of the Microsoft Office Suite such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage competing priorities, and work both independently and collaboratively.

• Seaspan’s Internships are 4 months in duration. We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $28.00/hour.
