Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Intern - Water (Summer 2027)

Your Opportunity

As an Intern/Co-op, you will work in a team environment and have exposure to water infrastructure projects which may include dams, levees, transportation structures, solid waste landfills, coal combustion residual (CCR) units, water/wastewater piping, pump stations, treatment facilities, stormwater infrastructure, etc. Candidates should be highly motivated and dependable who are taking or have taken civil engineering courses, with a focus on geotech. This is a terrific opportunity for a college student to support a number of exciting local and national projects for clients such as local municipalities, state government agencies, power utilities, industrial clients, and federal government. This role may be of interest to engineering candidates who enjoy outdoor work environments and on the job project opportunities. 

Your Key Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and coordinating geotechnical explorations.
• Assisting in project administration including writing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports
• Assisting technical staff with various project tasks, including researching, compiling, and evaluating project data, preparing reports, and performing calculations for design projects
• Perform modeling and design activities on a variety of water infrastructure projects 
• Assist engineers with reviewing boring logs and laboratory data.
• Assist engineers in executing geotechnical analysis and evaluation of geotechnical hazards, as it relates to design and construction phases of the project.
• Gaining exposure and performing basic tasks in CAD and other design programs
• Performing construction observations and assisting with geotechnical field work, as needed
• Completing other engineering/administrative duties as required

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction
• Willingness to learn

Education and Experience

• In progress toward earning a bachelor's degree (minimum) in civil engineering or related field

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for an extended period. An office presence is expected to maximize learning during the intern period. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
