The Asia General Account Investment function serves as the in-house investment manager for all of Manulife’s Asia Segment’s ~USD 116 billion of life insurance company assets. The team directs investment of funds backing insurance reserves amongst different asset classes and investment managers. It has direct responsibility managing over half of total Asia Segment’s assets in equities, bonds, mortgages, alternatives and derivatives and it oversees the investment management and performance of assets outsourced to Manulife Investment Management Public and Private Markets and other external managers. The team seeks to generate superior risk adjusted returns to support insurance product competitiveness and shareholder value.   

Position Responsibilities:

• Assist the team with legal entity financial reporting reviews, board report production, billing and other finance-related activities.
• Perform financial and data analysis to develop useful insights, reporting and deliverables for management and the General Account Investments Asia business.
• Support finance and business management activities, including budgeting and forecasting, expense analysis and tracking, and enhancement of related processes and platforms.
• Assist with reviewing and documenting investment and business processes, including developing process maps and data flows to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Contribute to process and technology enhancements, including automation of manual activities and development of more efficient reporting solutions.
• Assist with the development, maintenance and enhancement of investment tools, self-service reporting and management information using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Power Platform and Python.
• Gain an understanding of the business infrastructure, investment processes and portfolio structure of General Account Investments Asia, and support portfolio onboarding and related activities.
• Support a range of Finance & Business Advisory and broader General Account Investments initiatives and projects as directed by team leads.

Required Qualifications:

• Undergraduate pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline.
• Internship or relevant experience in asset management, investments or the broader financial services industry is beneficial.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in financial analysis, investment processes, data and business improvement.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with or interest in VBA, Python, Power BI, Power Platform, SQL, Alteryx and Anaplan is an asset.
• Knowledge of financial reporting and analysis, finance transformation, investment management, Treasury, ALM, Risk Management or relevant accounting standards is an asset.
• Ability to understand business processes and data flows, identify improvement opportunities and contribute to practical solutions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across different functions, levels and locations.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work independently and adapt to a growing and evolving business.
