About the Opportunity

We operate as Manulife across our offices in Canada, Asia, and Europe, and primarily as John Hancock in the United States.  

The Asia General Account Investment function serves as the in-house investment manager for all of Manulife’s Asia Segment’s ~USD 116 billion of life insurance company assets. The team directs investment of funds backing insurance reserves amongst different asset classes and investment managers. It has direct responsibility managing over half of total Asia Segment’s assets in equities, bonds, mortgages, alternatives and derivatives and it oversees the investment management and performance of assets outsourced to Manulife Investment Management Public and Private Markets and other external managers. The team seeks to generate superior risk adjusted returns to support insurance product competitiveness and shareholder value.   

Position Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with portfolio managers to support fixed income investment activities across global markets
• Assist in preparing investment reports and responding to ad-hoc requests
• Conduct analytical projects and process improvement initiatives to enhance team efficiency
• Gain hands-on exposure to fixed income markets and a variety of financial instruments

Required Qualifications:

• Undergraduate graduate with a major in finance, economics, or business administration or Master of Finance, Economics, Accounting or related subjects.
• Strong academic achievement.
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting, financial or investment, strong analytical techniques.    
• Familiarity with a variety of financial products and services.    
• Agile, creative and show initiative while working in a challenging and fast paced environment.   
• Strong written and oral communication skills.      
• Solid computer experience in Office with a strong aptitude for learning new software packages.   
• Great attention to details. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.   
• Result oriented and self-motivated.
