Motion Design Intern

Overview

In this role, you’ll focus primarily on motion design and animation, helping develop visual assets for internal initiatives and external client requests. You’ll collaborate with producers, directors, designers, and project teams to turn ideas, scripts, and storyboards into polished, engaging visual stories while gaining hands-on experience in a professional communications environment.

You’ll have a supervisor guiding you every step of the way, offering mentorship and feedback as you build your motion design skills, strengthen your creative judgment, and learn how visual storytelling supports communications across the firm.

This position is based in Raleigh, NC, with flexibility for remote work during the academic year; candidates should be available to work in office when school schedules allow such as during summer break. This internship is expected to average approximately 10–25 hours per week during the academic year, with scheduling flexibility based on class schedules and project needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with motion graphics, animation, post-production, quality review, and final deliverables.
• Design and animate clear, engaging graphics for videos, presentations, social media, internal communications, and client-facing projects.
• Translate scripts, outlines, creative briefs, and storyboards into motion concepts that support project goals and audience needs.
• Organize project files, manage media assets, and support efficient motion design and editing workflows.
• Incorporate feedback from stakeholders, designers, and supervisors during review cycles.
• Review work for polish, accuracy, brand alignment, timing, typography, captions, audio levels, and export settings.
• Collaborate across departments to understand project goals and help shape clear, engaging visual stories.
• Attend project meetings and contribute ideas that support storytelling, pacing, visual clarity, and audience engagement.
• Maintain a positive, curious attitude and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

•  Experience creating motion graphics or animation in Adobe After Effects.
• Strong design fundamentals, including typography, layout, color, timing, and composition.
• Experience developing visual assets or illustrations with Illustrator, Photoshop, or other creative software.
• Ability to follow creative direction, apply feedback, and revise work with attention to detail.
• Strong organization and file-management skills, including the ability to keep media assets and project files clearly structured.
• Comfort working with multidisciplinary teams and communicating clearly across projects.
• Creative problem-solving, adaptability, and willingness to learn new tools and workflows.
• Time-management abilities and reliability when working across multiple projects.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience or interest in 3D modeling, texturing, or animation.
• Experience with InDesign, Adobe Audition, or other creative software.
• Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro and basic video editing workflows.
• Interest in character animation, kinetic typography, visual effects, compositing, or data visualization.
• Basic knowledge of color correction, audio cleanup, and preparing polished video deliverables.
• Familiarity with video production equipment, including cameras, lighting, or audio.
• Experience creating social media animations or short-form video content.
