Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi is an innovative healthcare organization dedicated to transforming patient care and operational efficiency through advanced technology.  We are seeking five motivated students to join our Innovation & Development Team.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple facets in a corporate IT department.  You will work alongside experienced IT professionals, contribute to real world projects, and develop skills that are essential for a successful career in Information Technology in the following areas:

• Cyber Security
• Data Science
• Healthcare Technology
• Networking and Server Engineering
• Software Development

The program duration is scheduled for 10-12 weeks, during the months of June, July and August of 2027.  The positions are in offices at our Flowood, Mississippi campus and are paid.

What You’ll Do:

• Assist in maintaining and improving IT systems, including hardware, software, and networks.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of information security protocols to protect sensitive data.
• Participate in system programming projects, including coding, debugging, and testing applications.
• Help troubleshoot and resolve technical issues for end-users and internal systems.
• Collaborate with team members on IT projects, including network configuration and infrastructure upgrades.
• Conduct research and provide recommendations for new technologies and tools.
• Document IT processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps for knowledge sharing.

Job-Specific Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Information Technology, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Systems or related fields with at least a Junior level academic standing by the end of Spring 2027.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
• Basic understanding of Technology concepts, including data, networking, programming, and/or cybersecurity principles.
• Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, or C++) and operating systems (Windows, Linux, or macOS).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Enrolled in a Mississippi based College or University or Mississippi resident.

• Manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

• Write concise messages, draft simple guides and communicate clearly in written form.
• Listen closely during instructions, paying full attention to the speaker and ask clarifying questions before attempting to solve problems or provide feedback.
