About the Role
The Process Unit (PU) Intern will participate in a structured rotational program designed to provide exposure to key areas of refinery and terminal operations, including Laboratory, Operations, Projects, Mechanical Integrity, and Procurement. This position offers hands-on learning opportunities that provide insight into the technical, operational, and business functions that support safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The intern will work alongside employees from multiple departments to assist with daily activities, special projects, and continuous improvement initiatives while gaining valuable industry experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting to support operational and business decision-making.
  • Participate in laboratory activities, product quality monitoring, and process optimization efforts.
  • Support Operations personnel through field observations, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist Project teams with planning, coordination, tracking, documentation, and execution of capital and maintenance projects.
  • Support Mechanical Integrity programs through equipment inspections, reliability initiatives, asset management activities, and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Assist Procurement personnel with vendor communications, purchase requisitions, inventory reviews, sourcing activities, cost tracking, and supplier performance evaluations.
  • Assist in analyzing operational, maintenance, and financial data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for management review.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Procurement, Safety, Environmental, and Commercial teams on assigned projects.
  • Learn and apply refinery safety standards, environmental requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Support special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Observe and learn about refinery and terminal operations through job shadowing, department rotations, field activities, and participation in meetings.

Qualifications

  • Interest in exploring future educational and career opportunities in engineering, business, operations, supply chain, project management, or related fields. 
  • Strong willingness to learn and take initiative.
  • Good communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees across multiple departments.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, and a commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both office and industrial field environments.
  • Ability to access operating units, climb stairs, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and perform field observations as needed.
