The Role

As a Plant Design Engineering Intern, you will support engineers and designers working on industrial facilities, equipment arrangements, piping systems, and integrated plant layouts. You will gain hands-on exposure to technical design tools, project documentation, field conditions, multidisciplinary coordination, and project delivery while contributing to active assignments with guidance from experienced professionals.  

What You’ll Do

• Assist with plant layouts, equipment arrangements, piping drawings, models, reports, and other project documentation. 
• Support three-dimensional design and coordination of equipment, piping, access, maintenance, and facility systems. 
• Participate in project meetings, model reviews, site visits, field observations, and collaboration across engineering disciplines.

• How plant design principles, modeling tools, codes, and technical standards are applied to industrial projects. 
• How equipment, piping, structures, utilities, access, and maintenance requirements are integrated into coordinated layouts. 
• How plant designers evaluate constructability, field conditions, clashes, and multidisciplinary project requirements.

Qualifications

Required

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field. 
• Completion of relevant engineering, drafting, design, manufacturing, or technical coursework. 
• Basic understanding of industrial facilities, equipment, piping, or three-dimensional design concepts. 
• Basic proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, or similar design software and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred

• Internship, co-op, drafting, or project experience related to industrial or plant design. 
• Familiarity with Plant 3D, Navisworks, ReCap, laser-scan data, or model coordination workflows. 
• Involvement in ASME, SME, or related professional organizations.
