Information Technology (IT) Intern - Summer 2027

• Location: Mundelein, Illinois

• Pay: $28.00 per hour

• Program start: Tuesday, May 25, 2027, with limited flexibility for academic calendars

• Duration: 10 weeks, with the possibility of extending up to two additional weeks based on business needs and intern availability

• Schedule: Full time, 40 hours per week, on site

As an Information Technology (IT) Intern at MacLean-Fogg, you will apply classroom learning to the systems and tools that help a manufacturing business operate. You will work alongside IT professionals and business users to understand needs, troubleshoot issues, and improve the reliability and usefulness of technology.

You will take ownership of a meaningful project with guidance from an experienced team. Depending on your assignment, you might improve a support resource, analyze a recurring issue, build a report, test an application change, or automate a routine task. At the end of the program, you will present your work, findings, and recommendations to leadership.

IT Areas You Could Explore

Assignments vary by location and may include:

• End-User Support and IT Operations: Help troubleshoot user issues, document solutions, and improve everyday technology support.

• Infrastructure and Networking: Support approved work involving devices, networks, systems, and technology inventory.

• Cybersecurity and Access Management: Assist with supervised security activities, documentation, and appropriate access practices.

• Business Applications and Systems: Help understand user needs, test changes, and improve how business applications are used.

• Data, Reporting, and Analytics: Organize data and develop useful reports or dashboards with appropriate access and guidance.

• Automation and Application Development: Use scripts, code, or approved low-code tools to improve a process and test the results.

You do not need prior experience in these areas. Not every assignment is available at every location.

What You Will Do

• Learn the systems, support processes, and user needs relevant to your assignment.

• Gather information about technical issues, reproduce problems when appropriate, and document troubleshooting steps.

• Help configure, test, or support technology within your assigned access and under team guidance.

• Analyze data or recurring issues to identify opportunities for improvement.

• Create or update clear technical documentation and user instructions.

• Help test application, reporting, or automation changes before approved use.

• Protect confidential information, follow access and change-control procedures, and escalate security concerns promptly.

• Organize your work, communicate progress, and take ownership of a project with coaching from your team.

• Follow facility safety requirements and present your project results and recommendations.

What You Bring

• Enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in information technology, computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, computer engineering, data analytics, or a closely related field.

• Interest in using technology to solve problems for people and a manufacturing business.

• A methodical approach to troubleshooting, testing ideas, and checking your work.

• Willingness to ask questions, learn from feedback, and explain technical information clearly.

• Ability to organize your work, document what you learn, and collaborate with people in different roles.

• Availability for a full-time, on-site summer internship. Limited start-date flexibility may be available for academic calendars.

All college class levels are welcome. Previous internship experience is not required. Coursework, projects, labs, volunteering, student activities, and other jobs can demonstrate your potential.

Helpful, but Not Required

• A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• Coursework or projects involving operating systems, networking, cybersecurity, databases, business applications, or software development.

• Experience with a programming or scripting language, SQL, reporting tools, or approved low-code tools.

• Experience troubleshooting technology, building a lab or application, documenting a process, or helping others use a system.

• Exposure to tools such as Microsoft 365, Excel, Power BI, or a ticketing system.

Experience in every listed area is not expected. The tools you use will depend on your assignment.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The physical demands below represent those required to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Work at a computer for extended periods and use standard office technology.

• Communicate and exchange information with colleagues and other people involved in assigned work.

• Move between office and manufacturing areas as needed for the assignment.

• Wear required personal protective equipment in designated manufacturing areas, which may include safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety footwear.

• Work primarily in an office environment, with visits to manufacturing areas where noise and temperature variation may be present.

What to Expect After Applying

Our hiring process includes an application, Criteria assessments, application and assessment review, a recruiter screen, and a 45-minute interview with the hiring team. Candidates selected for an offer receive a conditional offer followed by required pre-employment screening before hire.

This position requires a pre-employment drug screen after a conditional offer. A criminal background check may also be required, depending on the role. Screening and employment decisions are administered consistent with applicable law.
