Key Responsibilities We Will Trust You With:

The HSE Intern will support the Health, Safety & Environmental function by assisting with safety initiatives, regulatory compliance activities, training programs, audits, inspections, and safety performance reporting. This role provides hands-on experience in occupational safety and manufacturing operations while helping promote a culture of safety throughout the Erie facility.

The HSE Intern will work closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Human Resources, Quality, and Engineering teams to support safety programs, risk reduction activities, and continuous improvement efforts.

What You Will Be Doing: 

Safety Program Support

• Assist with administering facility safety programs and initiatives 
• Support new employee safety orientations and training activities 
• Help maintain HSE records, training documentation, and compliance files 
• Assist with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management and documentation control

Audits, Inspections, & Compliance

• Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis activities 
• Support near-miss reporting and corrective action tracking 
• Help identify safety improvement opportunities throughout the facility

Product & Process Support

• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for manufacturing processes

Safety Metrics & Reporting

• Collect and analyze safety performance data 
• Assist with preparing safety reports, dashboards, and presentations 
• Support KPI tracking and trending analysis

Employee Engagement & Continuous Improvement

• Participate in safety committee meetings and initiatives 
• Assist with safety awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and communications 
• Support continuous improvement projects focused on reducing risk and improving workplace safety 
• Promote employee engagement in safety-related activities

Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise that matter most for this role:

 Education & Experience

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, Engineering Technology, or a related field 
• Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing preferred 
• Prior manufacturing, industrial, or internship experience is a plus

Technical & Functional Skills

• Basic understanding of safety principles and OSHA regulations 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) 
• Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data 
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills

Key Interactions

 Internally: Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing, Human Resources, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Maintenance teams.

 Externally: Limited interaction with contractors, vendors, regulatory representatives, and training providers as needed.

Work Environment:

A combination of office and manufacturing floor environments. The intern will spend time both supporting administrative functions and participating in shop-floor safety activities.

May be exposed to machinery, noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures within production areas. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when entering designated manufacturing areas.

Physical Demands:

Position requires frequent walking throughout the manufacturing facility, standing during audits and inspections, and routine computer work. Occasional bending, climbing stairs, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
