Industrial Engineer Intern

• Build professional experience in a manufacturing environment supporting the energy industry

The Industrial Engineer Intern will support continuous improvement and manufacturing optimization initiatives across assigned value streams. This role will work closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Procurement teams to improve process efficiency, reduce cost, improve lead time, and support customer demand requirements.

The position provides an opportunity to gain exposure to manufacturing operations while applying engineering principles in a real-world production environment.

What You Will Be Doing:
 

Manufacturing Process Optimization & Flow

• Assist with analyzing manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and product flow 
• Support process capability studies using data collection and analysis techniques 
• Participate in facility layout and workflow improvement projects 
• Assist with identifying and eliminating non-value-added activities

Continuous Improvement

• Support Lean Manufacturing and Operational Excellence initiatives 
• Participate in Kaizen events and continuous improvement activities 
• Assist with implementing visual management and 5S improvements 
• Support waste reduction and productivity improvement efforts

Quality & Process Support

• Assist with process audits and improvement activities 
• Support development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) 
• Help analyze quality trends and identify opportunities for improvement 
• Participate in corrective action and root cause analysis activities 

Data Analysis & Reporting

• Collect, organize, and analyze manufacturing performance data 
• Assist with KPI tracking and operational reporting 
• Support development of visual metrics and management dashboards 
• Present findings and recommendations to engineering and operations teams

Culture & Engagement

Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise that matter most for this role: 

Education & Experience

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or related engineering field 
• Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing preferred 
• Previous manufacturing, technical, or internship experience is a plus

Technical & Functional Skills

• Interest in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications 
• Exposure to ERP systems such as SAP is a plus

Key Interactions

 Internally: Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Planning, Procurement, and Product Management teams.

 Externally: Limited interaction with suppliers, vendors, and external partners supporting manufacturing operations and improvement initiatives.

Work Environment:

This position works in a combination of office and manufacturing floor environments. General office conditions include a temperature-controlled setting with routine computer work and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Time spent in manufacturing areas may involve exposure to machinery, noise, dust, varying temperatures, and moving equipment. Appropriate PPE is required in designated production areas.

Physical Demands:

Position requires frequent walking throughout the manufacturing facility, standing during observations and project activities, and routine computer use. Occasional bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting materials associated with assigned projects may be required.
