SUMMARY
General Description: The Human Resources Intern will support the HR team with a variety of administrative and employee-related activities while gaining hands-on experience in human resources operations. Responsibilities may include assisting with onboarding, preparing HR documents, supporting employee engagement initiatives, The intern will also assist with special projects and help ensure HR processes are organized, accurate, and aligned with company policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and able to handle confidential information with professionalism. Strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are highly valued.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Support new-hire onboarding and orientation processes.
- Assist with preparing HR-related documents, reports, forms, and correspondence.
- Assist with employee engagement activities, company events, and internal communications.
- Aid HR Staff as needed ensuring HR policies, procedures, and documentation are followed and maintained accurately.
- Assist with special HR projects, research, data entry, and other initiatives as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling employee and company information.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or as applicable to the role.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
General Education
College: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
Major: Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, Organizational Psychology, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.
Job-Related Experience:
- Previous experience in human resources, recruiting, administration, customer service, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working in an office, professional, or team-oriented environment is a plus.
- Experience handling confidential or sensitive information is preferred.
- Experience with scheduling, data entry, recordkeeping, or administrative tasks is helpful.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or other HR/business software is a plus.
- Previous internship, volunteer, campus organization, or other relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal HR experience.
Certifications: No specific certification required.
Licenses, etc.: Valid driver's license is necessary when operating a vehicle while on agency business.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of human resources principles, practices, and procedures.
- General knowledge of recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and personnel administration.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality when handling employee information.
Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
Abilities:
- Ability to learn and apply HR policies, procedures, and processes.
- Ability to communicate professionally with employees, candidates, and management.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
Physical Demands:
- Primarily sedentary office work with the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move around the workplace.
- Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, printers, and other office devices.
Work Environment:
- Primarily work in a professional office environment.
- Regular interaction with employees, candidates, supervisors, and other members of the organization.
- Work may involve handling confidential and sensitive employee information.
Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for issuance of a NASA credential.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
