About The Company
Greenlyte | Liquefying renewable energy
Greenlyte revolutionizes the energy infrastructure by turning renewable electricity, air and water into green molecules needed for the scaled production of synthetic fuels. Our patented system captures carbon and co-produces hydrogen in one process - providing the key feedstock layer for scalable e-fuel production.
We call this platform LiquidSolar™: storing renewable energy in the form of carbon-neutral fuels such as e-Methanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel. By co-producing carbon and hydrogen efficiently, our process drives costs down to a level where e-fuels can compete with – and ultimately undercut – fossil alternatives. This unlocks real economic viability for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors like aviation, shipping, and critical infrastructure, while ensuring long-term energy security.
Founded in 2022, Greenlyte has grown into a 70+ person team combining deep technical expertise with entrepreneurial drive. We’ve filed 10+ patent families, secured €55M+ in funding from leading climate-tech investors and grants, and are working with strong partners across industry and research to deliver our first commercial plants.

About the Role
Let’s build the fossil-free future
At Greenlyte, we are reshaping the global fuel economy with our novel, IP-protected, direct air capture to fuels technology, which shows superior economic potential compared to existing approaches, even reaching fossil prices. Backed by leading European VCs and with commercial agreement from Lufthansa and MB Energy, we are deploying our first commercial facilities to prove commercial viability in the next 12 months.Where Ambition Meets Purpose
We are not waiting for change. We are building it together. At Greenlyte, speed and collaboration define how we work. Our culture rewards initiative, learning, and teamwork. If you want to grow fast, take ownership, and shape real impact, this is the place to do it.
How you'll contribute
As a Working Student in Systems & Design Engineering, you help design and industrialize the electrolysis cells, stacks & BoP for our direct air capture to fuels technology. You work closely with our Systems Engineering, Test Engineering, and Manufacturing teams, turning rough concepts into precise 3D models and drawings that go into production. If you think in three dimensions and want to see your designs become real hardware, you will feel at home here.- Design electrolysis cell, stack & BoP components and assemblies in 3D CAD, from rough concept to production-ready model.
- Create and refine manufacturing drawings for single cells, stack parts, and assemblies.
- Translate electrochemical requirements, from anode and cathode to full stack, into clear mechanical designs.
- Work closely with Systems Engineering, Test Engineering, and Manufacturing to align designs with process and production needs.
- Coordinate with suppliers on drawings, parts, and manufacturability.
- Find pragmatic and scalable design solutions that cut complexity and cost, and bring them to the team.
- Month 1 to 2: Work on manufacturing drawings and learn our internal tools using rough models from the team.
- Month 3 to 5: Take ownership of individual parts and smaller assemblies, with regular design reviews.
- Month 6 to 12: Independently design single cells and assemblies in 3D, from concept to production-ready model.
About you
Must-have- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, such as Process Engineering .
- Strong 3D thinking and confident with CAD software such as Fusion or Inventor, including parts and assemblies.
- Basic understanding of electrochemistry: fuel cells, electrolyzer or batteries
- Clear communication skills and a confident, professional presence when working with suppliers.
- Solid English skills for daily work with the team and external partners.
- Available 20 hours per week (mostly onsite in Essen) and motivated to build sustainable technology.
- First practical experience with electrolyzers, fuel cells, or batteries from a lab, project, or internship.
- First experience creating manufacturing drawings used for real fabrication.
- Basic knowledge of process engineering.
- German language skills for smooth coordination with regional partners.
What we offer
- 20 days vacation plus 2 special leave days for company events plus public holidays to ensure you also have the down time needed to rest and recharge.
- Real responsibility from day one, not busywork. Your designs go straight into our hardware.
- A small, high-trust team where your ideas shape decisions and flat hierarchies mean no micromanagement.
- Mentorship from engineers building first-of-a-kind technology, with room to learn fast.
- Direct impact on global decarbonization, with results you can see and touch.
- A supportive, curious team that takes the mission seriously and still has fun together.
- A front-row seat as we deploy our first commercial facilities over the next year.
