Role: EMEA People/HR Intern

Location:  Johannesburg, South Africa (remote)

About the role 

OLIVER South Africa’s People Internship Programme is a 12-month opportunity designed to provide practical experience across a range of People functions within a fast-paced, creative and marketing environment. 

As a People Intern, you will work closely with the People team and gain hands-on exposure to the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, People administration, employee engagement, learning and development, and employee relations. Through structured support, coaching and mentorship, you will build the practical knowledge, skills and confidence needed to begin a successful career in Human Resources.

What you’ll do 

  • Support recruitment activities, including job advertising, interview coordination and candidate communication. 
  • Assist with new-starter onboarding and employee offboarding processes. 
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, trackers and People documentation. 
  • Provide general People administration support throughout the employee lifecycle. 
  • Assist with employment contracts, employee letters and other relevant documentation. 
  • Support learning, training and development initiatives. 
  • Contribute to employee engagement, culture and wellbeing activities. 
  • Assist the People team with employee queries and day-to-day support. 
  • Gain exposure to employee relations processes and South African labour legislation. 
  • Support People reporting, data management and workforce-planning activities. 
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with OLIVER’s policies, procedures and People practices. 
  • Participate in People projects that support employee and business objectives. 
  • Build positive working relationships with employees, managers and stakeholders across the business. 
  • Attend structured training, coaching and mentorship sessions throughout the 12-month programme. 
  • Handle sensitive employee information with professionalism, discretion and confidentiality. 

What you’ll bring 

  • A genuine interest in people and a desire to build a career in Human Resources. 
  • A relevant completed Degree or National Diploma in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Business Management or a related field. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Good interpersonal skills and the confidence to work with people at different levels. 
  • Strong planning, organisational and administrative abilities. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. 
  • Professionalism, integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • A proactive, solutions-focused and service-oriented approach. 
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint. 
  • A positive attitude, adaptability and a willingness to learn. 
  • An interest in working within a dynamic, collaborative and fast-paced creative environment. 

Most importantly, you are curious, eager to take on new challenges and committed to developing the practical skills needed to grow within the People profession.
