Get Hands-On Experience in a Real Newsroom

Are you serious about pursuing a career in broadcast or digital journalism? Our news internship offers college students the opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a fast-paced newsroom.  Forget the typical internship experience of simply shadowing staff or getting coffee. Our interns are immersed in the news-gathering process and have the opportunity to contribute to the work that goes into producing news for broadcast and digital audiences.

 

We offer internship opportunities in:

 

  • News Reporting. Find and pitch stories, set-up interviews, shoot video and interviews, write stories and edit video.
  • Broadcast Producing. Write scripts, build newscasts in computer rundown system, lead live newscasts behind the scenes. This is not production or studio focused and does not involve any shooting or editing of video.
  • Digital Producing. Write stories for the website and produce content for social media platforms.
  • Shoot video and interviews for stories, shoot breaking news and live shots.
  • Video Editing. Edit video for broadcasts.
  • Find and pitch stories, shoot video and interviews, write stories for broadcast and digital and edit video.

 

 

Internship Requirements & Guidelines

 

  • College Credit Required: All internships are unpaid and must be completed for college credit. Written verification of college credit from your educational institution is required.

 

  • Semester-Based: Internships are available during the Fall, Spring, and Summer

 

  • Time Commitment: A minimum commitment of one 8-hour day per week is required. Additional hours may be available depending on your college credit requirements.

 

 

  • Relevant Experience: Applicants should have completed journalism or related coursework and/or have previous internship experience. A strong interest in news and journalism is essential.

 

  • Reliable Transportation: Reliable personal transportation is required. Some internships may include opportunities to leave the station for news-gathering assignments. Interns must provide their own transportation and may not ride in company vehicles.

 

  • Background & Drug Screening: All interns are required to successfully complete a background check and drug screening.
