2027 Powder Processing Process Engineering Internship – ATI Specialty Materials
Location: Monroe, NC – Baker’s South
Program Duration: 10 Weeks | Summer 2027
Target Students: Graduate and Undergraduate students currently pursuing Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related Engineering disciplines
Optimize Powder Processing – Intern in Process Engineering at ATI
At ATI, we engineer specialty materials that power the next generation of aircraft, spacecraft, surgical implants, and energy systems. As a Powder Processing Process Engineering Intern, you’ll work alongside Engineering and Operations teams to improve powder processing operations, develop innovative process solutions, and support automation initiatives. You’ll apply your engineering knowledge to hands-on projects focused on material characterization, process improvement, and manufacturing efficiency.
What You’ll Work On
Depending on your project assignment, you may:
- Create and analyze seeded heat compacts using BPO materials to support an updated fingerprint database.
- Develop a process to limit open-air dumping of revert powder from screening to VIM.
- Support implementation of the auto-feed program in screening to improve process efficiency and consistency.
- Analyze process and material data to identify opportunities for quality and process improvement.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to develop and implement practical improvements to powder processing operations.

Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in:
- Materials Science & Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Related Engineering discipline
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in powder processing, materials manufacturing, and process improvement.
- Ability to analyze data and evaluate process performance.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Engineering and Operations teams.
- Willingness to work in a manufacturing and plant environment.
