About the Role

American Battery Solutions is looking for a co-op with a partnership through Kettering University. 

Job Summary:

The American Battery Solutions (“ABS”) Engineering Rotational Co-op is responsible for assisting the Product Engineering Department with engineering activities related to development, testing, validation, and continuous improvement of products and processes. This position will work closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to complete assigned projects, analyze technical information, document results, and support engineering activities in both office and industrial environments. The Engineering Rotational Co-op will gain hands-on experience while applying engineering principles and problem-solving skills to support ABS objectives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist engineers with product development, testing, validation, troubleshooting, prototype builds, and evaluation of components, systems, and products.
  • Support engineering projects by collecting, organizing, and analyzing technical data and maintaining accurate records of testing and project activities.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of engineering documentation, including reports, specifications, drawings, and other technical materials.
  • Participate in cross-functional activities with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and other departments as needed.
  • Use engineering and computer software to complete assigned tasks, analyze data, and prepare reports or presentations.
  • Hands-on building and testing of Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) components.
  • Support engineering changes and continuous improvement initiatives, including identifying opportunities for product, process, and cost improvements.
  • Report on the progress of tasks on a regular basis.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. 
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.


Position Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate student working towards Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or other relevant degree.
  • Must be enrolled in a partnership school with a rotational co-op program.
  • Must be able to work on average 40 hours per week for the 12-week rotation.
  • Must possess and maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA.
  • Must fulfill 24 credit hours in one calendar year.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to handle and prioritize numerous assignments simultaneously.
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Office Software, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook or equivalent Google Suite.
  • Co-op students may be eligible to work in a rotational program up to graduation if position qualifications continue to be met.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. 
  • Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen. 
  • May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/below knee level or reach overhead. 
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about in industrial environments, and on uneven terrain. 
  • Works in a temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions, and in industrial environments.
  • May be required to recognize small numbers, letters, symbols, and colors.
